{DIY} Halloween Wreath
09.27.10
I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had the Halloween itch…the itch to start decorating for Halloween. This weekend I couldn’t hold back and started decorating. And did I have fun! I love this time of the year! In the recent Williams Sonoma catalog I spotted a wreath I loved, but there was no way I wanted to spend $70. So I decided I was going to attempt in making my own version for the front door. I headed to Michael’s and started to load the cart. Word to the wise…before you head to Michael’s have a list and know what you’ll need (or want). I ended up having to make a 2nd trip to Michael’s. I like to think it’s Michael’s fault because they have too many fun things that end up distracting me. I love that store.
To get started here’s what you’ll need:
24-inch twig wreath
1 – strand black leaf garland(found in the Halloween aisle)
1 – strand autumn leaf garland with small pumpkins
1 – black crow (found in the Halloween aisle)
1 bag of small pumpkins
1 to 2 autumn berry twigs (found in the floral section)
Hot glue and Hot Glue Gun
Instructions:
Step 1: I started off placing the twig wreath on a flat working surface with all materials a short reach away.
Step 2: I cut the black leaf garland into thirds. This helped in placing on the wreath. To make sure the leafs stay attached to the wreath be sure to intertwine the plastic vine section of the garland withing the twigs from the wreath.
Step 3: I also cut the autumn leaf garland into thirds. Your thirds do not have to be equal portions. Once you are working on the wreath you will be able to tell about how much you may need in certain areas of the wreath. You’ll then start arranging the autumn leaf parts on the garland. The black and the autumn leaves should mix in together, you don’t want to completely cover the black leaves. Like the black leaves, you will need to take the plastic parts of the garland and intertwine them in with the twigs of the wreath. You can also use your glue gun to help.
Step 4: Take the berry twigs and place them around the wreath so they are evenly placed around wreath.
Step 5: Place one or two small pumpkins on wreath using hit glue gun to adhere the pumpkins to leaves or directly to twigs.
Step 6: Place black crow on wreath. You can use a glue gun to adhere the crow to the wreath if needed. Luckily the crow I had an extra plastic loop and I was able to wrap it into a twig from the wreath.
Now you have a Halloween/Autumn wreath to hang on your front door. I’m hoping my directions are easy to follow. If you have any questions just leave me a comment and I’ll be sure to get back to you.
I have to say this didn’t take very long at all. Maybe 20 to 25 minutes at the most. It’s really about having fun with it.
Have fun and happy decorating!
