School has never looked like so much FUN! I recently came across this adorable Vintage-Modern School Day theme from Anders Ruff Custom Designs. Almost all schools are back into the swing of things now but I had to share this wonderful party/theme.  Your little ones will forget about summer and be ready for school with this party! Anders Ruff Custom Designs was inspired by their new School Day printable design collection, you’ll find lots of details here that can add a little bit of fun to their “everyday” school experience too… like cute bookmarks, note cards, book labels & more!

In addition to Back to School celebrations, this would also be a fabulous theme for Teacher Appreciation week… or as a birthday party theme for your favorite little bookworm!

They styled this photoshoot at an 1890 One Room Schoolhouse in Huntersville, North Carolina.  It had been preserved and is used for field trips and other events.  They used the space to show a fun “school day” play date or party.  The ladies of Anders Ruff  thought the classic old “school” vibe went along great with their new printable School Day collection.  Photo’s were taken by their fabulous photographer, Becca Bond, and she captured every detail!

Label all your school supplies! A MUST!

They created fun packaged lunches for all of the kids to eat after playing.  Sandwiches where wrapped in waxed paper and twine and embellished with their printables.  Apples were stuck into cupcake wrappers that they filled with some natural shred and added a printable party flag.  They also included some cookies and pretzels in a cello bag and topped it off with a bag topper that has spaces to check off descriptive words for the foods inside (Salty, sweet, delicious, healthy, etc)  The juice boxes where wrapped with the ABC patterned papers.  And they used their printable party logo as an embellishment for the striped straws.

See more photo’s and details on this fabulous Back to School themed party over on Anders Ruff!  So much more to see….and so cute!

All printables are available at www.andersruff.etsy.com They are also offering a free School Day luggage tag printable!”

Back to school time is here and it’s time to think about your little ones lunch box.  At least in my house we are thinking about getting new lunch boxes (and backpacks) for the upcoming school year.  My girls are entering into preschool (so scary…they are getting too big too quickly).  Last year’s lunch box was great but a little small for two little girls with a growing appetite.  I recently came across PlanetBox, a very cool lunch box for both kids and adults that was designed by two parents.  PlanetBox, is an eco-friendly lunchbox made out of high quality food-grade stainless steel and saves parents out there from buying sandwich bags and other lunch packing containers.

PlanetBox was designed to help parents pack healthy, well-balanced lunches their kids will love.  Part Japanese Bento box, part TV dinner tray, PlanetBox’s individual compartments ensure that foods do not “touch each other.”  The sandwich compartment guarantees no more squished sandwiches.  There’s plenty of room for fruit and veggies, and even a small spot for a little tasty treat. The right-sized compartments guide parents on how to pack a variety of foods, and get the portions right. At the end of the day, the whole thing can go in the dishwasher for easy cleaning.

PlanetBox’s kid-friendly design features one easy to use latch that little fingers can open and close on their own.  Food arrives at school neatly displayed in one super stylish looking tray. And here’s the coolest part–kids get to personalize their own kits with ultra-hip “rocket”, “under the sea”, or “retro kitty” themed magnet designs (11 styles to choose from). What better way for kids to express their personality!

Definitely not your old-fashioned metal lunch box, PlanetBox is truly lunch transportation for the green generation.  I can’t wait to receive ours!

Those lazy days of summer are coming to an end.  And that means those hectic days of back to school are upon us.  If your house is anything like mine, routines usually slide in the summer—after all, what’s summer without crazy bedtimes, sleeping in, an ice cream habit, and wearing swimsuits for days on end?   So from going to no routine to a routine can be hard to re-adjust come fall.   Please stop by my guest post on Smithfield.com where I share tips I have found that have helped me get my own girls ready for the school year.  And you have any tips be sure to leave me a comment over on Smithfield’s blog.  I would love to hear them.

Happy First Days of School!!

07.27.10

With the girls starting school in three weeks I have been on the hunt for a lunch box for their first day.  I think I’m also trying to consume my thoughts with other things besides the fact that they are starting school.  Yikes!  they are growing up.  It’s not preschool so does that mean it’s not officially school?  They are beginning the “Tot” program and will be in a class of 10 other 2 and 3 year olds.  It was a hard decision, but we think it’s going to be great for everyone in the end.  I’m just not looking forward to that first day of them walking inside their classroom for the first time.  After all, it feels like it was yesterday that I was holding them in my arms (both of them).

As I was on the hunt for lunch boxes I came across some really great things that I had to share with you all.  Like the adorable lunch boxes above from Skip Hop.  So cute and there are 6 animals to choose from.  What’s your favorite?  I think the owl is just too cute for words!

Then what about these?  Reusable, washable, and grease proof snack bags….and they are pretty!  Lunchskins offers three sizes of reusable bags in a variety of adorable prints.  If you aren’t too sure about reusable bags maybe this may change your mind….every day, more than 20 million sandwich bags from school lunches go into landfills in the US.  I think these adorable lunch bags are a lot more fun and you won’t be worried about being one of those people filling up that landfill.

And here just a few more fun things that are perfect for packing your little ones lunch.

1. Japanese-style lunchbox with whimsical designs 2. Resnackit reusable lunch bags 3. Mini Lunchbox Notes to create quick personal notes inside your kids lunch box 4. Water Week water bottles can be filled and stored in fridge leaving kids to decide which bottle to use every day.

Now that I have the perfect lunch box and accessories now to figure out what I will be packing each day for my munchkins.  I hope these ideas were fun for everyone as much as they were for me to find.
