Banana Espresso Chocolate Chip Muffins
11.20.09
For my birthday my wonderful friend got me a gift certificate to Borders to buy the cookbook of my choice. She knew I would love a cookbook but had no idea which one. I have to tell you it was so difficult. I searched and searched and finally decided on Baked: New Frontiers in Baking.
I saw them on Martha and have heard about how great their book was and what finally sold me was they opened a shop in Charleston. I haven’t been yet but it will be on my stop the next time we head to Charleston. If your in NYC they also have a shop there too.
When I finally got my book in the mail I opened immediately and started to flip thru. Wow! So many delicious recipes and wonderful pictures to go along. I have many on my list to make but my first recipe were these Banana Espresso Chocolate Chip Muffins. The decision was easy since I had very ripe bananas that needed to be used. I changed the recipe a little by adding some white whole wheat flour and reduced the sugar to 1/4 cup (recipe called for 1/2). The smell these muffins made while baking was magical. Of course, the first bite was pretty magical too. These are great to have in the morning with a cup of coffee or as a dessert.
As you can tell by the pictures I’m still trying to test my lights. This daylight savings time is a real bummer. I miss my natural light!
Oh….and I have a GIVEAWAY! Would you like your very own copy of Baked: New Frontiers and Baking? Well you can! Just leave me a comment and tell me your favorite cookbook and why. The contest will end Sunday at 12 pm EST and Monday I will announce the winner. Good luck everyone!!
Banana Espresso Chocolate Chip Muffins

These muffins look scrumptious! I would have to say my favorite cookbook has to be…umm…sheesh, this is hard…whose recipes I use the most and enjoy are probably the Pioneer Woman’s soooo, I’m going to go with that! Betty Crocker comes in a close second though!
OMG…I’m coming over for one of those right now. I never thought of putting espresso into my banana bread (I’ve been adding the chocolate for a while now). But the espresso addition is genius.
Oh, and cookbooks? My favorite is The French Laundry Cookbood (pure food pr0n) but the one I turn to time and time again is The Joy of Cooking.
Congratulations on the new cookbook! That’s such an exciting feeling, like getting a new puppy or something
These days I’ve had a big cookbook crush on the Lion House Bakery book. But then, Betty Crocker is still the staple in my collection.
Oh how I love anything banana!!!! Those look so good! I am loving your blog! I made your whoopie pies recently and we loved those! Mmmmm Anyways, cookbooks…right now I would say The Pioneer Woman would have to be my favorite!
My favorite cookbooks are by Susan Branch. I love her drawings and stories that go along with the recipes. She creates a lifestyle that I’d love to have!!!
Hey! These look super yummy! Can I have one right now?
My favourite cook book happens to be my Mom’s cooking diary… ! Nothing else matches up to it.
What a great combination of flavors!
I am ever impressed with your talents and your fabulous blog, I am really enjoying every new addition. Since I love to bake more than cook, and I have always enjoyed my subscription to Cook’s Illustrated, I would say my favorite cookbook is Cook’s Illustrated Baking Illustrated. They take a very scientific approach to finding the best methods and technique to get great results. Helps to understand the cause and effect of too much baking soda.
Baked is on my cookbook wishlist!
My favorite cookbook…that’s a difficult one. I have my go-to recipes, in certain books (like all of Ina Garten’s) that I pull out all the time. But, I guess my favorite cookbook right now is The Lee Bros. cookbook. It is so much fun to read and reminds me of home!
Those look so delicious….can’t wait to try them!
My favorite cookbook is the new Pioneer Woman Cookbook!
Healthy muffins! I think my kids will dig this.
My fav cookbook is Sanjeev Kapoor’s Khaana Khazaana. I’ve grown up watching his cookery show Khaana Khazaana on telly which inspired me to cook. I still try many of his recipes which have been a hit on my blog.
Wows, looks delicious and healthy!
My dad will love it. It even has coffee =)
My favourite cookbook is the Baking and Pastry book by Culinary Institute of America! It has a complete reference guide for every kinds of desserts
It was my 16th birthday present this year. It’s a GREAT book.
Isn’t it so fun to shop for cookbooks, particularly when you have a gift card to use? As for my favorite cookbook – well, that’s a very hard decision. Right now I’m having fun with Martha Stewart’s Hors d’Oeuvres Handbook – beautiful photos for every recipe and imaginative hors d’oeuvres.
