A few weeks ago my mom treated me to the perfect birthday present….a spa getaway to Sedona, Arizona at the Enchantment Resort! It’s the first trip I’ve had with just my mom since I got married (which will be 7 years come this weekend)! Needless to say, this trip was well needed for the both of us! Not just for the mom and daughter time but also for the “me” time (for the both of us). No distractions… just beautiful scenery, relaxation, good company, and some hiking! And in my case some sleep! Haven’t been getting as much as I should these days so it was nice to get some much needed rest. It was the perfect getaway and it was hard for both of us to pack our bags at the end of our trip.
Here are a few pictures from our trip and later this week I’ll share photo’s of the Enchantment Resort, the amazing place we called home for 3 nights/4 days. If you ever need an getaway and are a loss for a relaxing location and love the West….you have to go here! You won’t regret it! Everything was amazing!
The above is one of my favorite images from the trip for some reason. I got up early the first morning of our trip and headed out to the main building in search of a cell phone signal to call home to talk to the girls. I ended up walking out on one of the top decks and this was my view. It was right before the sun was rising and I just sat there in amazement of the beauty of what was around me.
Here is mom and I (can you tell she’s my mom?) on our first full day and our first hike of the trip! It would be the first of many hikes we did on our trip! We learn a lot along the guided trail about the red rocks, the plant life, the history of Sedona, and even about the wildlife.
The red rocks are amazing. This picture was taken along our first hike.
And a couple more of mom and I….sorry, we don’t tend to get many pictures together so we took advantage of the photo opts along the hike.
The hike was a pretty rocky trip with climbs along the way. We climbed up out onto this rock for a mom and daughter photo moment.
And here are a couple more scenic photo’s from our trip.
Another one of my favorites for some reason. This was on another hike. Bright and early and the sun was just starting to make it’s appearance.
I have almost 200 pictures from my trip. I’m still trying to go through them all and edit some of them. I’ll be back with more details this week from my trip.

I thought I would post an update on how everything is going on my CrossFit addiction. Last time I updated you I had just started and was already pretty much addicted and I would like to happily report that two months later…..I’m still addicted! I love it! I actually look forward to the next workout and what is to come. The fact that each day is different is freakin awesome. I walk in to my 5am class and look up at the board and that’s when I find out what my workout will be for that day. No “routine” workout here. And each workout pushes you to your own limits. Things you think you can’t do…you can! You would be surprised what you are capable of doing. All it takes is a little push. That’s when your coach/trainer comes into play. My 5am coach Crystal is awesome! She is always helping you along in the workouts and pushing you to try more. And did I mention she is pregnant! Yes, she as cute as can be at 8 months pregnant with her first little munchkin. She amazes me! She is still CrossFitting at 8 months too and looks great. If I ever have another one I surely hope I can look like her (and hopefully still be CrossFitting)!
Now so far in my CrossFit journey, I have met some of the benchmark CrossFit workouts, Angie and Nicole. Actually this week I met Nicole and she was a pretty tough workout since pull-ups are still something I have yet to master completely. For those who aren’t familiar with Nicole, it’s 20 minute AMRAP (as many as you can in the time allotted) of pull-ups and a 400m run. I had a little assistant with my pull-ups but hopefully the next time we try Nicole I’ll be a little further along and mastering pull-ups. Again, I’m having a great time and loving CrossFit! Now the 4:30am alarm clock wake ups are a little hard but it’s worth when 6am rolls around and I know I just got a great workout in!
The picture above is from my Thursday morning workout. It’s always more fun to have a post with an image. The workout consisted of “stations” of different workouts and you totaled up each “rep” you completed at each session. I finished the morning with 3, 4, 5, 5….those Air Dyne’s aren’t fun and adjusting the bike took a little more time away. Oh well!
Hopefully I can update you a little more on my WOD’s (Workouts of the Day).

This weekend the family ventured out to the beach. Luckily, Irene passed by our coast only causing some waves and a little beach erosion. I say this after seeing images of much of the Eastern Seaboard and the damage we had was nothing compared to them. The only sad thing about the storms is all the sea turtle nests that we saw the weekend prior. You see last weekend we also were at the beach and saw nothing but a sea of little yellow signs that read “sea turtle nest do not disturb”. The girls were fascinated with these signs and that there were little sea turtle eggs under the sand. We tried to explain to them that once the eggs were ready they would crawl from the sand and head to the water but the eggs had to stay under the sand and couldn’t not be touched or the turtles wouldn’t see able to make it to sea. We used some Nemo sea turtle terms too. We left the beach last weekend with them saying by to the sea turtle nest. Quite cute actually.
Well this weekend when we walked down to the beach not a single yellow sign was to be seen. And of course the one thing that was on the girls mind was were all the sea turtle nest had gone. It was sad thinking about it but just imagine trying to explain to a toddler what happen to the beloved sea turtles. We did our best only to have smiling girls faces turn into sad and concern faces. I’m convinced one if not both will become a vet when they grow up due to their love of animals. They get it honestly since my husband and I are both animal lovers. Yes, we are the ones that will crawl along the floor in our house trying to chase a lizard that got in so we could save it and let it free outside. Any way after we told the girls they decided they were going to gather food for the turtles in hopes this would help more mommy turtles come to our beach to lay more eggs. Of course the food they chose was only sea shells and rocks. This is what they are doing here.
And then not too long after they gathered the food we saw a rainbow form in the sky. We like to think it was all those baby sea turtles we lost to Irene’s path that were smiling down on our girls because of their want to make things better. Who knows? But it brighten our Sunday evening!

I’ve gone Crossfit! Usually I wouldn’t share something like this but I find myself needing to share. It’s only been 3 days that I have following this new addiction of mine, but it’s quickly changing my life. It will look intimidating when you watch the video above and you may say to yourself there is no way I could do that….or that….or even that…..but you and your body will surprise you. It’s surprised me in the past 3 days that I have been following Crossfit. My body is definitely not the same after having the girls. I’m not as fit as I was when I was playing college soccer or even when I competed in my first triathlon, and for awhile I was just accepting it as that’s what happens after babies but I recently I changed my mind about that statement. I have friends who were mostly guys doing this thing called Crossfit and it just went in my mind and out. But then a good friend of mine who is like my little sister told me she started Crossfit too. That’s when my eyes and ears opened up. She went on to tell me that it was so me and that I had to at least give it a try. I thought about it and I jumped…after all what was to lose? Our vacation threw some things off but Monday was my first 3 for free classes at my local Crossfit gym. On Sunday I recall telling my husband that I was actually nervous about my first session. After all it was something new and after checking out this video and this video I was quickly becoming intimidated. Coming Monday morning at 6am I entered into the world of Crossfit and now that it’s Wednesday and I finished my last class this morning I can’t wait for the next class on Friday. I’m signed up and ready to change myself and push myself like I did when I was a college athlete….even if I’m 30-something.
Now let me step back a little and probably something I should have done before jabbering away. What is Crossfit you ask? Here is something from the CrossFitX:
Are intrigued? Did I sway you into trying this thing called Crossfit? If not, I’ll keep sharing along my journey into this world of Crossfit.
Now I’ve shared….and I promise to keep sharing….

Easter morning we were woken by two excited little girls wondering if the Easter bunny had come to their house. It didn’t take much longer for one of them to sneak downstairs to find pink baskets waiting for them. Soon afterwards I had two jumping up and down little girls telling me that the Easter bunny came. Yippee!! I remember those days as a kid. It was so special to see them experiencing that moment too. After looking at each and every piece in their basket and each others baskets we had a quick breakfast. Then, still in their pj’s, we headed outside for the great Easter Egg Hunt. It took longer for daddy to hide the eggs then it did for the two munchkins to find them.
I never seen two little girls work so quickly in finding Easter eggs. It took about 3 minutes for two baskets to be filled….see…
They were then wondering when they could do it again….
Later Mommy? Please? Maybe I said…
Then we found this….
And we all became distracted.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! I hope it was filled with everything like ours was… family, laughter, fun, and chocolate! I hope every Easter is like the one we had on Sunday!
